An Eggcellent Breakfast Idea! #TysonChicken #CBias

Posted by Stephanie on Jan 13, 2012 in Product Review, Reviews, Sponsors | 3 comments

I absolutely adore those chicken biscuits at Chick Fil A, but they can honestly get a little pricey – and sometimes, I am just waaaaay too lazy to drive (the whole whopping three blocks) over and pick some up.  Why not just make a similar sandwich in the comfort of your own home?  No reason to comb your hair, throw on going out clothes – just head to your freezer and fridge!

I wanted a chicken and egg sandwich, so I whipped out an egg and my handy dandy microwave egg cooker.  No cleaning up a pan on the stove for THIS girl!  I like clean up to be fast and easy (please remember that line – this comes in handy later).

You’ll obviously need this little frozen beauty warmed up, right?  Right.  Into the microwave for 45 seconds on one side, flipped over and warmed up for 30 seconds more.

Time to cook your egg!  I guess in this case, that age old question was answered: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?  Well – the chicken was cooked first, so THERE YOU GO!

Now, see…these little egg cooking devices are a little tricky.  I warm mine up for 45 seconds and no more, otherwise you have egg explosion and it CAN create a mess.

Sooo….why is it that when I pulled it out of the microwave, took off the lid, happily saw a perfectly cooked egg, that it decided at THAT VERY MOMENT to explode all over my stove?

The Fantastic Eggsplosion of 2012.  Nice.

After that mess was taken care of, my breakfast was ready to be eaten.  It looks so happy.

Super easy, and aside from that stupid egg exploding like it wasn’t supposed to, clean up is a snap.  And so much less expensive than driving somewhere and grabbing a $6 combo!

Quick Dinners Do NOT Have to be Tasteless! #TysonGoodness #CBias

Posted by Stephanie on Jan 6, 2012 in Product Review, Reviews, Sponsors, Yummy | 0 comments

As mentioned in my last post, we’re running on a tight schedule to get packed and moved.  And tonight, Zachary had to make a trip to the doctor due to a bout with bronchitis.  Times like these, I just can’t stop to make a full dinner that takes nearly an hour to make.  Luckily, Tyson chicken mini sandwiches are quick to make and can have a variety of items added to the sandwich to spice it up a little.

To change it up some tonight, I decided to make a “spicy wrap” of sorts.  First – don’t be jealous of my kick butt spider plate.  Most everything else is packed up and that, along with some Christmas plates, is all that I had on hand.  Anyways, I cooked the Tyson chicken mini sandwiches as directed in the microwave, then warmed up a flour tortilla for 20 seconds after that.  I transferred the chicken to the tortilla, then took some of the cheese that was on the sandwich and added it as well.

Please note: I had to get out of my work pants, and my jeans were in the dryer still drying, hence the really sexy stripes and plaid outfit that I have going on.  AMAZINGLY HAWT.

And I never said my husband was a photographer, by the way.

Next, I added on a few pepperoni slices to kick it up a notch.

And then on with the lettuce!

Of course, you have to wrap it all up like a burrito after the fact.  Then have a weird green spider stare at you as you warm up veggies to add as sides.

A colorful plate of food (with a green bean in the background, yay) – and a very tasty and under 5 minute dinner.  My husband said that it reminded him of a spicy chicken sandwich from a fast food place – not too shabby.

We are officially out of our tasty sandwiches and will have to go to another Walmart in our area – they are also sold out (check out our previous shopping trip at Walmart on my Google + album!).  If you haven’t tried these yet, my whole family encourages you to check out Tyson Goodness and see if there is a Walmart near you selling these tasty little treats.  There is still a fantastic deal going on for these sandwiches – buy 2 mini chicken sandwiches, and receive a $5 Walmart gift card!

What Will You Gain in 2012? @SpecialKUS

Posted by Stephanie on Jan 2, 2012 in Product Review, Sponsors, weightloss | 6 comments

A new year, a fresh start, and everyone has those pesky resolutions that seem to fall off track about the third week into January.

But for me?  Not this year.

While I’ve already achieved my weight loss goal, I’ve wanted to make sure that I maintain my weight loss AND tone up.  I’ll be honest – there are many, MANY days where it is so much easier to grab that bag of cookies and a soda versus something healthier when you’re in the middle of a deadline at work.  Or when when you have a toddler stomping around the house in search of a very specific pair of pants that matches his oversized football shirt, plaid fishing hat, Shrek ears and Nemo bucket – and he won’t leave you alone until you find those VERY PAIR OF PANTS RIGHT THIS INSTANT.

Yes, these things occur almost daily.  And yes, he has underwear on under that shirt.  I swear.

The Motherhood gave me the opportunity to try out a Special K plan for two weeks to see how it compares to other plans.

It seems pretty simple and sort of what I’m used to already.  They have a wide variety of items, but I was sent various protein bars, fruit crisps, cereal, crackers, shakes, and cereal bars to try out.  Medifast has definitely taught me the rules and tricks of healthier eating, so I’m curious as to how this Special K plan will work out for the next two weeks (my husband is continuing on with his weight loss plan as usual – so I’m even more interested in seeing how we each play out by the end of next week).  And with my next half marathon in less than a week, and fitness boot camp starting this week, I definitely need to stay away from those really bad for you foods and get myself prepared!

Today is National Weigh In Day, too!  It’s the day to kick start the new year with a resolution to make weight loss or maintaining your loss  conversations more uplifiting and positive.  Everyone’s journey starts with a simple question: what will you gain when you lose?

The first step was for me to head to the Special K website and put in all of my information for my specialized plan to pop up.  It’s incredibly user friendly – you simply click your information and out pops a personalized plan for you to follow.  One question that the site asks you over and over again is, “What positive change are you hoping to make besides maintaining your weight?”  I haven’t quite answered that yet.  Luckily, it says that I can revisit that question at any time to answer it (which is good, because my list of things I hope for are about two miles long).

My maintain plan looks fairly simple as well.  Here’s an example for today:

You’re also able to go in and “swap” out items that may sound a little more enticing versus what they’ve planned out for you – for example, my morning snack was originally Special K waffles, but I opted for a cereal bar.  It’s just an easy click of a button.  You’re able to go in and track your calories for the day as well on this site, and it will help show you which areas you need to change.

And water, water, water!  I’m already accustomed to drinking a ton of water – but water is always a key in ANY plan!

I’ll report back in a week to let you know how things have been going on this plan.  Today’s plan looks very simple – and I need it, since this week is going to be pretty bad (packing, working on deadlines at work, prepping the new house, training a few more times for my half, then actually RUNNING the half – again, and starting fitness boot camp!).

I’d love for my readers to “weigh in” on the topic of weight management – any thoughts or tips on maintaining your weight loss?  You’re also welcome to Tweet at me (@goobermonkey78) and at Special K (@SpecialKUS) to share those tips!

Happy New Year to all – and let’s kick this year off the right way – healthy, happy, and filled with energy!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, he found his special pants with pockets that he filled with tissues (really, who knows why – and don’t you dare call them shorts, because that is NOT what they are called, according to him).

Consult your physician before starting any diet or exercise program.  Average weight loss when replacing meals with two cereal meals is 4.8 pounds.  Weight loss may vary. Average waist circumference reduction when replacing meals with two cereal meals is 1.3 inches.

Disclosure: I participated in this program through a partnership with TheMotherhood on behalf of Special K. I received product and supplies to complete the plan. All opinions and statements are based on my own opinion and experience.

Milk-Bone® Holiday Shopping For Pupperoos! #ILoveMyk9 #CBias

Posted by Stephanie on Dec 29, 2011 in Friends, Product Review, Reviews, Sponsors | 7 comments

I was recently given the opportunity to go shopping at Walmart for some Milk-Bone® treats for a doggie holiday gift basket, and my daughter and I had a blast.  Since we’re a cat family, I was eager to make a doggie basket for some very special pupperoos – and Maddy was looking forward to checking out what all there was to offer in the dog treat world, since cat treats are a little boring in this household (honestly, our cat mainly loves cat nip – not really all that much fun).

I have these pretty keen friends named Todd and Julie that I have been spending quite a bit of time with lately.  Todd is my running/marathon/Mexican food buddy and Julie is turning into a girl date buddy.  They’re quite possibly one of the cutest couples that I have ever met, so it just seems natural for them to have the cutest and most adorable dogs that I’ve ever met: Abigail and Leo.

Sweet, sweet Abigail was adopted from an animal shelter and was Todd and Julie’s first baby.  She’s a quiet one (unless you start barking at her to get her to speak to you) who seems a little laid back, loves a good ear scratching, and is very tolerant of little brother Leo (I witnessed this first hand coming back from our 10 mile race on Thanksgiving day – Leo sat on Abigail’s head and she just acted like she didn’t notice).

Oh, Leo.  He’s hilarious and has as much energy as my toddler.  Todd and Julie adopted him after he was found wandering alone in their old apartment complex.  They tried to find his owners, but no one claimed him…so he became a member of their family.  He gives sloppy kisses, loves his big sister, and is so incredibly patient with little hands tugging at his fur (like my son’s).

Two special dogs who were rescued by two very loving and caring people – I knew that this gift basket would be absolutely perfect for them.

Madison and I headed off to shop for Milk-Bone® goodies the day after Christmas.  Curious what we do when we shop?  You know you are.  Check out my Google + album to see our adventures!  When we first entered the store, I immediately thought it was a bad decision.  The front of the store was packed with after holiday shoppers, and I was expecting the store to be completely demolished.

Surprisingly, the only area that was messy was the holiday clearance area, and that was to be expected, given there were about 50 people in the aisles.  We were happy that it seemed quieter in the back of the store with the pet supplies…that gave us the chance to look at everything without being crushed by other shoppers.

There was really a LOT of different dog treat options.  I had never heard of Milo’s Kitchen before, but I noticed the packages right away.  They were clean and simple packaging, but I liked the fact that it had a clear window in order for you to see the treats inside.   It was hard to choose which flavors to get – there were even chicken meatballs!

I was very familiar with the Milk-Bone® brand.  Growing up, we had several dogs who loved the classic bone shaped treats!  I was pretty happy to see the coupons that allowed you to save $2.00 on either a Milo’s Kitchen treat or a Pup-Peroni treat along with Milk-Bone®!

Pup-Peroni was another brand that I remembered, and I was happy to see that they had expanded their flavors some.  It was definitely hard to choose which to get.

On top of the doggie treats, we also picked out a few new toys for the pupperoos.  We found two adorable hedgehogs and a big yellow squeaky dog.  Maddy was pretty excited to find that one.

We decided on Lean Beef and Beef Jerky from Pup-Peroni, Beef Jerky from Milo’s Kitchen, Maro Snack and the classic Milk Bone from Milk-Bone® for their edible treats.

After dropping Maddy off, I headed home to get the basket ready to go with Zachary – since Maddy is at her Dad’s house this week, it was Zachary’s job to deliver the gifts to our friends.

Zachary helped me set up the basket just so (Moms of toddlers, you know how they are!) and we delivered it the next day.

Curious how it turned out?

Wonder if the pupperoos liked it?

Did Leo really have a mohawk for his blog debut?

You’ll have to come back in a few days to see!

…okay, I have to share a picture of Leo with his ‘do, because it is SO STINKIN’ CUTE.  I die.  I do.
